War memorial arch in New Delhi, India
About India Gate
The India Gate (formerly known as All India War Memorial) is a war memorial arch that’s located near the Rajpath (officially called Kartavya Path) on the eastern edge of the "ceremonial axis" of New Delhi, India. It stands as a memorial to exactly 74,187 Indian soldiers of the British Indian Army who died between 1914 and 1921 during the First World War, in places like France, Flanders, Mesopotamia, Persia, East Africa, Gallipoli, in the Near and Far East, and the 1919 Third Anglo-Afghan War. Around 13,300 British Empire servicemen's names, including some soldiers and officers from the United Kingdom, are also inscribed onto the gate.
